Imagine that you're standing on a sloping lawn among several hundred people, most of whom are either drunk like yourself or high, and that moments before the gates to let you in to the event opened, the sky let forth a torrent of rain and spectacular thunder and lightning that, to the drunken mind, are of biblical proportions. Now imagine that said rain storm lasts until well into Dave Matthews' set, let's approximate it to be 10 minutes. Now let's humiliate and expose the general stupidity of the author of this diary by saying, let's imagine that during those first 10 minutes of the set -- the peak of the buzz, mind you -- you're watching DMB on the large monitors and grooving along to songs you don't know but don't care, and you can't for the life of you figure out where the stage is. Long story short, I did eventually figure it out (sunken stage, duh!) and the majority of the show was rain-free, though during the second encore the skies opened up again. I returned home a soggy, muddy mess. My sneakers are still caked in mud.

In other developments, MB and I got a kitten. A little black girl with just a touch of white on her underside. She's 8 weeks old and has not stopped moving since I picked her up. L and D's housemate is the owner of the mother and since collectively they have too many animals in that house (L and D have 2 pugs and 3 cats, and their housemate has a puppy and our kitten's mother), there was no room for 5 kittens. MB's mom has been wanting a new kitten for the house (in addition to Andy and the 9 barn cats, plus Nikki and LB, the dogs) so this little scrapper was the perfect candidate to be brought home. She's a climber and is the most fearless little thing I've ever seen. We named her Tenae (pronounced tin-ay). I have no idea how we're spelling it, but for now this is what I'm using. It's short for tenacious, because boy howdy is she ever! Pictures of the little darling forthcoming. She's currently attacking one of MB's rolled up socks and anything else she can stalk on our floor.

MB's mom's cousin and one of her friends have been staying with us this week. Since MB is at work most of the time, I've been getting some quality time with these women. The four of us went to a flea market the other day and had an absolute ball. Billie Jo, the friend, has been cleaning and cooking like you wouldn't believe! Not that MB's mom is any slouch in the kitchen, but Billie Jo has been just amazing. I've loved being around these women. Gwen, MB's mom's cousin, was a teacher so we've had a lot to talk about and thinks a lot like I do. And MB's mom (henceforth known as Mom C) and I have hit it off from Day 1 way last year. I feel really lucky to know these women.

Speaking of which, in some strange and unrelated way (poor segue, bad English major!), I'm going north to see my parents today. Our reunion is tomorrow and it looks like we're on our way to a repeat of last year weather-wise. I can't wait. Pretend you're Ben Stein and say that last sentence. That's how I said it. Part of me wants to go and see everyone (not that too many are showing up, so I've heard through the grapevine) and part of me wants to say "Bah! No way! Rather stay here with my kitten." Alas, duty calls. All I need to do is make sure my To Do list is in order and gather up a few things here and I'm outta here later this afternoon. It'll be gray skies as far as the eye can see. I can't wait (again with the Ben Stein voice).

Off to see who's awake,

Thanks for reading,

Ter
