Some traditions are time-honored and the masses revolt when even the slightest change occurs. Some people just go with the flow, say "to hell with tradition!" and do whatever they please. Our family found itself somewhere in between those two in an odd compromise that ended up being pretty darn good.
Two of my sisters got the idea for us to have Thanksgiving breafast versus having our usual dinner. I hated the idea immediately. Who has Thanksgiving breakfast??? But, since I sort of had no choice, I went along with it. Only two of my sisters came up yesterday, since the other's husband wanted to go hunting. They've done this before so I wasn't too disappointed. And, though I grumbled right up until they came, Thanksgiving breakfast wasn't such a terrible thing. We had bagels of all kinds, English muffins, mini pancakes, French toast dippers, 2 kinds of sausage, bacon, cinnamon swirl toast, coffee cake, juice, milk, and coffee. All delicious, all very filling.
Then it hit me -- who cares what we eat or when, the important thing is we were all together (well, mostly) on Thanksgiving. I can be such a brat when it comes to tradition.
Which, if I get my way, we'll be breaking come Christmas.
By the way, I'm all done observing. Just waiting out the rest of the semester by putting up with seminar, hanging out in health, and holding on in YA Lit (last class first weekend in December -- whoo hoo!).
Now to go get ready and wait for the parents to get home and wait some more for TF and her family.
Happiest of (belated) Thanksgiving wishes,
Thanks for reading,
Ter
