Whoo! What a vacation! I don't think I sat still the entire time I was gone, which isn't a bad thing since I'm known far and wide around here for my sedintary nature. Since I was gone for 8 days and memory fades with age (yes, I know I'm only 23, hush up) this will be more or less stream of consciousness and in list format, because I know how much people like lists.

  • First night there, MB and I went to a party his friend BJ was having. It was out at this horse barn where he's been showing his horses before. There's a pavillion where tents were set up and there was booze all around. I promptly got my ass drunk, long story short. MB had to hold me up a lot, even though I was insistent that I could do it myself (yeah, not so much). From what he tells me, I was very repetitive in the stuff I said. I don't remember what I said, but I have a fairly strong recollection of what happened, which impresses me much since I figured I'd have blacked out. From the sound of it, you'd think I'd drained a keg. Yeah, not so much. I had 3 and a little bit of a 4th bottle of Smirnoff Triple Black. I'm a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. And I drank (okay, guzzled) all that in the span of about 2 hours. So needless to say that MB and I were the first ones to crash that night. Next morning, 8 a.m. sharp unfortunately, I was on my feet. Woozy, sloshy tummy, and with an insatiable need to hurl (which I did, outside a diner), but I was awake. After a 4 hour nap back at MB's I was ready to go. Ahh, my recuperation powers are phenominal. Apparently.

  • My best friend, L, and her fiance, D, have a boat so MB and I spent a lot of time with them out on the river. MB attempted riding their tube a couple times and learned how to fly when it hit the boat's wake just right the second time. It was unbelievable! I love being out on the water like that. And spending all that time with L and D just made my week (well, so did seeing MB, but you know what I mean). I've officially seen more of L and D in the last 4 months (especially on this trip) than I have in the 3 years they've been together and the 4 L has been away.

  • MB and I went hiking a few times. First trip was to these caverns and oh my god was that an experience! They were unbelievable! So, so beautiful. Part way through the tour, they stop and take pictures of the group that you can buy when the tour's over. Of course I did. It's one of the best pictures of MB and I to date, in my estimation. His mom wants a copy, so that's on my To Do list this week. There's a spot near the end of the tour that's a really popular place for weddings and there's a story that goes if unmarried couples stand on the heart in the floor they'll be married in the next year. MB and I were egging each other to stand on the spot but neither of us did. I don't need to stand on a spot like that to know I'll be with him forever. Now that I've had my sappy moment (and, trust me, it won't be my only one), the other place we went hiking was this park with these two waterfalls and a view that can only be described as WOW. In the haze off in the distance you could see the mountain range that's near where I live, and I was easily 200 miles away from home so that gives you an idea of how fantastic this view was. And the day we were there was crystal clear, hardly any clouds, warm but with a breeze. It was just The Perfect Day to be there.

  • Interesting anecdote: MB and I went with his mom to shop for appliances at Sears and the man waiting on us can only be described at best is Apu's twin. I kept waiting for him to say, "Thank you! Come again!" when we left. As he was pimping out washers and dryers, he looks at MB and I and was making a point about laundry loads or something and looks at us and says something and "Your wife. Girlfriend? Wife?" MB and I look at each other and in unison say "girlfriend", in that panicked sort of way that says, "yeah, that could be true in a couple years, but we've only been together 4 months". Later, as MB was admiring televisions, I cracked that 1) the diamond ring I have is on the wrong hand, and 2) the diamond is way too small. At least for what I want in an engagement ring. Not that I think about that kind of thing ::cough::

  • I finally got to see MB's apartment. I helped him move a couple chairs in and some clothes. He'd let some friends stay there this summer, and this one chick made a complete mess of the place. They moved out a month ago and it was just horrible. Shoes everywhere, the dirt was caked and nasty on pretty much everything. It was bad. We went to the store and got some cleaning stuff and hit the high use areas, namely the bathroom and kitchen. I tackled the kitchen and let me tell you, now that I've cleaned it, I'm not afraid to have food in it. The stove was a cream/gray color when we got there and was white when we left. That's just nasty. All he had left to do really was finish off the floors, give them a good sweeping and mopping. He wasn't looking forward to it, but I told him it's relatively easier than the stuff we'd already done, which he agreed. Other than the mess, it's really a nice place, on the third (and top) floor, nice neighborhood. He won me a little stuffed frog at the fair (which I'll get to momentarily) before I got there and when I left I said it can live at his apartment. Because I'm sappy like that.

  • We went to the fair the first night I was there and saw the demo derby. It had rained earlier, so the part of the track where the derby was held was a mud pit. In one of the heats, there was a car we were sure was going to crap out in seconds, and didn't that little sucker win! In the first heat, it was the different fire companies in the area and one of them was the one D used to work for, so that was "our car" to watch. While the announcer was introducing the cars and drivers, that car got stuck in the mud! To make things worse, it stalled out and died before the flag even fell, so those of us rooting for that car were particularly bummed.
That's all that I can rember off the top of my head. Classes started today, and I only had one (whee!) so it was a good deal for me. I'm observing this semester but that doesn't start for another week or so since high schools around here aren't in session till after Labor Day. I have a ton of stuff to do student teaching-wise. I have applications to fill out, a portfolio (2 even!) to prepare, tests to take, and all that happy crap. But I'm excited! I'll be in a classroom! I'll be able to practice the things I've learned! I'll be trying out the lesson plans I've come up with! I'll be getting my official start down my chosen road to true Independent Ter Land!

Please remind me of this enthusiasm should I ever gripe in the near future. It's bound to happen sooner or later. I'm only human, you know.

Ready for the semester,

Thanks for reading,

Ter
