Friday the 13th! Dum dum dum! Should I be afraid? Nah. I live just down the road from the Infamous Elm St. and I sleep well every night. Besides, me and luck have a tumultuous relationship, whereby I don't bother it and it occasionally shines on me.
Typing this is a bitch, as my nails are now a freshly polished seafoam green. I have a history of scraping, scuffing, stubbing, and, in general, fucking up freshly polished nails, so I'm being cautious. I hate typing slow, especially when I know I can go so much faster. At least I'll be able to catch spelling errors faster.
My first week of no class and already I'm stark-raving nuts. I'm bored! I seriously have no CLUE what to do with myself now that I'm not working on lesson plans or unit plans or having something scholastic to do. I'm so beside myself wondering what unemployed, not-in-school people do with themselves. What did I do last summer? How did I stand this for so long?? This is crazy!
But on the bright side, I have 5 shiny new books speeding their way to me from the Amazon.com warehouse. I got a letter and an abbreviated syllibus for my Young Adult Lit weekender class. We meet 6 times, the first time in early September, so I'll have plenty of time to do the reading. Or so you'd think. There are 5 required readings, 1 lit circle book, and 10 (!) independent books. That's 16 books in 15 weeks, or a book a week more or less. Which is why I ordered the required ones early so that I can get a jump start on all... that... reading... But really, I am looking forward to it. One of the required readings is The Giver and I've heard all kinds of great things about it, so I'm eager to get my paws on it. If anyone has any suggestions for my independent reading, drop a note or e-mail or sign the guestbook. I'd love to know what's out there, since I really have no idea (ironic for an aunt of 7 kids who should, by all standards and stereotypes, be reading YA lit by now).
If you get a chance, stop by sixweasels and wish her a happy birthday!!
Now I'm going to go snuggle up in a blanket and watch the rest of Oprah. What is the matter with the weather lately? Rainy, gray, and cold?? Someone needs to give the east coast a slap up side the head and remind it that it's still summer!
Shivering away the boredom,
Thanks for reading,
Ter
