As part of my administrative agreement, I attended a citation and plaigarism workshop on Wednesday. There were only 5 other students there, I was the only grad student (and oldest by virtue of being such) and felt enormously out of place and uncomfortable. I was only there an hour and 20 minutes, and oh yeah, feeling good to be done with the majority of my Administrative Agreement. I just have to keep my nose clean and I'll be fine.

It's really embarrassing to say I want to teach English and have been busted for plaigarism. I think, though, I'll be more likely to believe a student that says s/he just forgot. The "excuse" (in quotes because it can be legitimate) doesn't seem so flimsy to me now. I'm a pretty empathetic person anyway. And thanks to this workshop, I can now hold my own with my students.

In non-school-related things, since I never seem to reveal a lot about that part of my life, I'm getting itchy for a show. Bands don't tour up here due to our unbelievable ruralness very often. Most of the shows I go to are at the Other University in town. I've only been to 5 shows, but I've seen many more bands, since they usually come as package deals. Come, wander my musical history with me.

First concert ever was in 1998. I remember a friend of mine at the time calle dme one night as said, "Wanna go?" I don't remember who else was on the bill, but the headliners were the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. My first time in a rowdy, surging crowd. I got hooked -- now I crave being in the middle of all that chaos.

Next year was the Sugar Ray show. My best friend L and I absolutely adore Sugar Ray's bassist, Murf, who we met after and HE HUGGED ME! I got him and the drummer to sign a set list a security guard gave me. The show was my birthday present for L, so meeting Murf was purely icing on the cake. There's tons more I could tell about meeting Murf, but in interst of time and space I'll just say WOW! Orgy was suppose to be on the bill but had to bow out and the replacement was group called Swimmer. Still have no idea who they are. I remember their lead singer said, "3000 people and one asshole. Meet me outside after the performance" because someone was booing and calling for Orgy. There was also some other rap/hip hop act that I can't remember.

The next year was the Filter show. First one I went to all on my own, but found my boys from my lunch table the year before. Rahzel and someother band was on the bill. During Rahzel's set, soneone near me said, "Do they know we're white?" I was pretty heavy into rap and hip hop then, so I was definitely feeling like The White Girl. I think it was during Filter's set that 200 lbs. of drunken frat boy landed on my right shoulder. It mattered not, several feet away was Richard Patrick in a cowboy hat. I was a happy kitty!

In the fall of 2001 I went to see Blink 182 and New Found Glory with my oldest niece and one of her friends. It was at the State fairgrounds and we were way up in the third tier of the grandstand. The guys looked like ants and since I switched spots with my niece's friend, I got a pillar blocking out most of the left side of the stage. Mattered not, it was a badass show. Random historical note: 9 day later was September 11.

I didn't see any shows in 2002 but made up for it last year. 4 bands back at the Other University -- Double Drive, Trapt, Seether, and Reel Big Fish. You can read all the highlights here.

This year sounds like it will be just as awesome. Eve 6, Rahzel, Midtown, Catch 22, and Hightower (local band). I bought my ticket last week, I can't wait! April 03 won't come fast enough. And you can't go wrong with this show -- 5 bands for 10 dollars. In the words of the Great Cartman, "Sweet!"

Eager for April,

Thanks for reading,

Ter
