I try not to make a habit out of going to bed when the sun comes up, and that's exactly what I did on Wednesday... err... Thursday? Every Wednesday I go up to the farm to spend time with Mom C and watch our usual fare -- either Top Chef, Project Runway, Shear Genius, or whathaveyou. We have dinner, play with puppies, and in general have a good time. We started this tradition of sorts when MB and I moved. She was more concerned than I was that I'd miss out on our favorite shows at night. Since we watch something pretty much every night together, I conceeded Wednesdays. It gives us something to look forward to during the week and breaks up the monotony of the whole barely employed thing for me.

This past Wednesday I went up as usual. While we were watching Reba and eating dinner, the phone rang and Mom C invited up a friend of hers that used to run a gas station we'd frequent off the hill. For the sake of this story, I'll call her Game Lady, and you'll see why. Several weeks ago, Mom C was over at Game Lady's house and showed her some card tricks, which Mom C tried hard to remember to show MB and I but she couldn't remember some of the steps. As soon as Game Lady got to the farm, Mom C fed her then had her show us, me in particular, the card tricks. She showed us three, and for the rest of the night Mom C and I got into two of them. We played Russian Bank forever, then after Game Lady left, we spent four hours trying to figure out how she did one trick involving counting.

Finally, around 2:30 or so I decided to Google it to see if I could find out what we were doing wrong. An hour later I finally got it, though I suspect that Game Lady did a variation of what I found. Didn't matter to Mom C and I; at that point we were thrilled to have a tentative answer to our dilemma. MB called at that point wondering where I was and I headed home.

I forgot how pretty the sky can look at 4 a.m.

I was doing okay tired-wise yesterday. I couldn't drag myself out of bed today though. I've been up about 45 minutes (eek!). I never did get the cleaning done. Today's do or die. As soon as I EQ a bit... and watch What Not to Wear. I'll be cleaning to the sounds of Sugar Ray today. I don't know as I've ever mentioned this before, but I am a huge Sugar Ray fan. Back in high school, 9 years ago in fact, L and I attended our first Sugar Ray concert together and got hugged by their bass player, Murf. Being collossally nerdier than L, I learned way more than a normal civilian should know about Murf, and one of those things was his birthday is June 20 -- today, for those of you having trouble keeping up. Every June 20, known only to me and occasionally L when I think to tell her as Murf Day, I listen to Sugar Ray all day in celebration of Murf. There was a time when all L and I had to do was look at one another and say "Murf!" and the other would smile knowinly. I'll be doing that a lot today.

Happy Murf Day!
