I remember a few months after I had started working at the shoe store one of the girls that had been there a long time (or at least longer than me) was amazed that I wasn't bemoaning the job yet. In fact, until about three months ago I still was in "I heart my job" mode. Yeah, it became a bit of a pain when I was subbing simultaneously, but overall I was happy there.
Now I want out. Now I'm starting to see all the crap that goes on. Without going into detail, I've become the hot topic of gossip, which isn't exceptionally bad or anything. It's partially my own fault, since I can be a bit of a gossip myself. The bulk of my gripes about the job is at the end of the day, it's still part-time. I'm making just a little over the State's minimum wage. And I found out on Wednesday that our DM is a real hardass when it comes to allowing a part-timer to become full-time.
Cue up the usual chorus of "I need a job, wah wah wah waaaaah-ah!"
"We received your resume and have forwarded it to the appropriate channels."
"We received your resume and will keep it on file until something comes up."
"Thank you for applying. When the search committee is ready to start scheduling interviews we will let you know."
"Thank you for applying. When we are done reviewing applications we will contact you."
And on... and on... and on...
The worst are the automated repsonses, since those are the ones I never hear from. And it sucks that my last real writing "job" was the internship I did way back in 2002. I've applied for 10 jobs since June 22. Zero interviews thus far. Gah!
Meanwhile, the weekend is a bit iffy. The only two things I know for sure happening are I'm working Saturday (long shift, 1-9; what a waste of a day!) and I'm getting the new Harry Potter book. MB and I saw Order of the Phoenix last weekend and while I did enjoy it for the most part, it was a bit lacking. Of course, hardcore HP fans will notice that, especially if they've read the books (I have, all 6, yippee!). I've heard the rumors (who hasn't?) that two characters are offed in the last book. I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm going into this with an open mind.
Wishing it would warm up just a touch,
Thanks for reading,
Ter
